Spinderella offers olive branches to Salt-N-Pepa during the Walk of Fame ceremony in Hollywood

Legendary rap group Salt-N-Pepa recently received a star on the Walk of Fame, and Spinderella, invited by the duo, celebrates the achievement. In recent years, the three women – who have toured for decades and spread empowering messages through songs – have been at odds after Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton said Deidra “Spinderella” Roper was not a member of the group in 2019.

On Friday, November 4th, James, Denton, 56, and Roper, 51, met in Los Angeles to accept their plaques for exemplary careers spanning hits like “Shoop,” “Push It,” “I’ ll Take Your Man”, “Whatta Man” and more.

While James and Denton took the time to thank their families and staff and everyone who contributed to their legacy and reflect on the great honor, Spin took the opportunity during her acceptance speech to offer an olive branch. She went on to explain how important the group has been in her life and expressed how desperate she and the fans want them to be to reconcile.

She, with the duo Salt-N-Pepa behind her, first shared that she was only 16 when Salt, Pepa, Herbie Luv Bug and other people from the early production team came to her house to join talk to them about joining the group. The team came to her project apartment in Brooklyn to get her parents’ approval.

After her parents said yes, Spin said that in those early days they would come to Hollywood and look at all the stars along the Walk of Fame and wonder if they could ever get such an honor. The DJ said, “We never thought our names would be here … But God knew what he had in store.”

“Salt-N-Pepa’s music was not only timeless; it didn’t just make you dance; it was a movement,” Spin said. “A movement that can be felt worldwide.”

“Women everywhere have been forever inspired, transformed by the message of strength and independence, and what our message has done for you, it has done for me. Thank you Herbie for calling me to join this iconic group. Thanks Salt, Pep for mentoring me… life lessons,” she continued.

“I’ve been through ups and downs but I have to thank you for these lessons because it wasn’t just the music to me, it was our relationship and that means everything to me,” Spin said of their broken relationship.

Addressing the Grammy winner, she said: “Whatever we have to do to fix this, let’s restore some consistency. Let’s find out, and be iconic – and be what the fans want.”

The former tour partners have been at odds since Spinderella filed a lawsuit over unpaid royalties. The DJ shared with her fans that she received a termination email from the group and the duo edited her out of much of their Lifetime biopic, Salt-N-Pepa.

At the time, Spin said, she was “unfairly disfellowshipped” and her friendship with the ladies was “ended,” according to People.

With almost four decades in business, Salt-N-Pepa has shown no signs of slowing down. Aside from being the first rap group to have a Las Vegas residency, the show Salt-N-Pepa’s I Love the ’90s and with the New Kids on the Block 2022 MixTape Tour with En Vogue, Rick Astley and members of Naughty By Nature are touring, the ladies have a big date coming up.

On Monday, November 7th, Salt-N-Pepa will appear on “Dancing with the Stars” for “90s Night” on Disney+. Profile’s former recording artists were joined on stage by other acts such as Kid ‘N Play, En Vogue and Vanilla Ice who owned radio in those decades.
