South Australian woman killed in horrific truck accident

An elderly woman has been killed in a collision between a tractor-trailer and a Mitsubishi sedan on the Augusta Highway in South Australia.

The section of highway near Snowtown was closed for hours just after 12:30 p.m. following the fatal accident.

The driver and sole occupant of the limousine, a 79-year-old local woman, died at the scene.

The truck driver, a 49-year-old man from Munno Para West, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Snowtown Hospital.

The Augusta Highway remains closed to all traffic in both directions between Snowtown and Lochiel, with detours along Blyth Road, Magpie Creek Road and Condowie Plain Road.

Road closures are expected to remain in place for several hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

7NEWS reports that the truck ended up in a paddock next to the highway some distance from the crash site.

The woman’s death is the 49th fatality on South Australian roads this year, compared with 66 for this time in 2021.
