ARLINGTON, Texas – Dallas Cowboys won’t have their top two receivers in Thursday’s game against Las Vegas Raiders with CeeDee Lamb unavailable due to a concussion concussion on Sunday against Chief of Kansas City, according to multiple sources.
Coach Mike McCarthy expressed optimism earlier this week that Lamb will take on the Raiders before the receiver undergoes a limited portion of practice Wednesday. He saw team doctors and an independent neurologist after his workout, and sources say he’s had the procedure cleared up. However, Lamb can be susceptible to a second concussion for a short period of time, which can leave him unconscious for weeks.
The Cowboys already knew they wouldn’t have Amari Cooper, who was on the reserve/COVID-19 roster, for the second game in a row.
Lamb, who leads the Cowboys in receptions (50), yards (740) and receives touchdowns (6), was able to attend meetings on Monday and began his physical activity on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday. Midfielder Dak Prescott said Lamb was “great” on Wednesday. After going through sessions with Lamb on Tuesday and Wednesday, Prescott doesn’t think there will be any limits in the game.
The Cowboys have erred on the side of caution with their players this season regarding injuries. Solve on the left Tyron Smith could have played the Chiefs with an ankle injury last week, but the team opted to give him more rest given the rapid change in the Raiders game. He will start today. Prescott may have played on Halloween with Minnesota Vikings despite a calf injury, he had to take an extra week off to avoid a possible long-term problem.
The Cowboys will also be without offensive team coach Joe Philbin, who is on COVID protocol, according to sources. Assistant coach Jeff Blasko will take over his duties. Philbin was the third-place coach to miss time because of COVID, joining defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who missed a pre-season game, and running again for coach Skip Peete, who missed. November 7 meeting with Dancer broncos.
Two of the Cowboys’ three strength and conditioning coaches are also on COVID protocol. Cedric Smith was added to the list earlier this week, and Kendall Smith was added on Thursday. No other players seem to be affected.
