Sooners Reveals Spring Schedule – University of Oklahoma

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma women’s tennis head coach Audra Cohen and Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione announced the OU’s Spring 2022 women’s tennis schedule on Tuesday.

The OU challenge schedule includes 10 games against the teams that entered the 2021 NCAA tournament. The Sooners will play 14 opponents at home.

“We have a talented group of women ready for this challenging spring schedule,” says Cohen. “We will be hosting many of the top 25 teams in the country, and we hope you all come to support our women’s tennis program.”

The Sooners will open the season with four consecutive home games. Wyoming (January 17), Princeton (January 18), South Carolina (January 21) and Tarleton State (January 22) will all head to Norman for opening week.

The team will then travel to Durham, NC, for the ITA Kickoff Weekend and face Furman on January 29, while hosts Duke and Nebraska go head to head on the other side of the group. The winners of each match will go head-to-head on January 30 in the hopes of securing tickets to the ITA National Women’s Indoor Championships (February 11-14) in Madison, Wis.

OU returns home to play against New Mexico State (February 5), Arizona State (February 12) and USC (February 20). The Sooners will travel to Orlando, Fla., to face UCF on February 25.

The team will stay in Oklahoma state for the month of the march, hosting six games at the Headington Family Tennis Center. Illinois will arrive in the city on March 6 before the Big 12 kicks off against Kansas (March 11) and Kansas State (March 13). An unscheduled midweek game against Tulsa (March 17) will set the stage for another series of conference games against Baylor (March 25) and Texas (March 27).

The Sooners will wrap up the conference game on the road with TCU (April 1), Texas Tech (April 3), Iowa State (April 8), West Virginia (April 10) and Oklahoma State (April 15). .

The OU will return home to end the regular season with an unscheduled game against Pepperdine on April 17.

The 2022 Women’s Big 12 Tennis Championships will be held at TCU, April 21-24.

The NCAA’s regions are set for May 6-8, with the winners advancing to the Super Zones May 13-14. Placement will be determined at a later date. The NCAA Championships are held May 19-22 in Champaign, Ill., with individual tournaments held May 23-28.

The Sooners are having a historic 2021 season as they broke into the top 25 of the ITA and rose to 21st place for the first time since 2014. The women’s team also beat seven ranked opponents, including UCF, who won the title. American Athletic Conference champion. Carmen and Ivana Corley reached 11th nationally to capture the highest doubles ranking in the show’s history.

OU returns the elderly Carmen Corley, Sasha Pisareva and Marcelina Podlinska, juniors Carmen Corley and Layne Sleeth, sophomore Dana Guzman, and freshman Emma Staker.
