FRAMINGHAM (CBS) – As a potential blizzard increases drag on the east coast, winter needing essentials like snow blowers and generators can be unlikely.
“Normally I get 90-110 units and this year I get 11. It’s a production issue,” says Joe Deignan of Robinson’s Hardware in Framingham of his snow blower supply. “If we had a big blizzard this weekend, I probably wouldn’t have a snow blower.”
It’s not just heavy equipment. Robinson told WBZ-TV that replacement parts have also been ordered again. And it’s under repair.
“This year, some of our snow blowers are on hold for two months or so because we can’t find the parts to fix them,” he said.
Smaller necessities are also hard to find.
“Ice melt, shovels, batteries, flashlights,” says Rob Genna of Town Line Hardware in Sudbury, who has had to switch suppliers for some items. He blamed it on the ongoing supply shortage across the country.
“We are going to sell a ton of melted ice,” Genna said. “As soon as possible, prepare for it.”
As we prepare for the weekend’s snowstorm, hardware store owners are hoping for something surprising – snow.
“I hope the forecasters are right because we need some weather… for the business,” Genna said.
