Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell ‘on his deathbed at age 56’

According to a statement from his manager, Steve Harwell – former frontman of the legendary band Smash Mouth – is reportedly “on his deathbed” with just a few weeks to live.

The 56-year-old is reportedly being treated in hospice care at his home after suffering liver failure.

Friends of the star – whose hits ‘All-Star’ and ‘I’m A Believer’ were made even more popular by the hit animated series ‘Shrek’ – have traveled to his home to say goodbye.

Harwell’s manager Robert Hayes confirmed this TMZ that the singer struggled with alcohol abuse for much of his life, which led to liver failure.

Hayes said his client had “only about a week to live.”

The news comes after years of health struggles, with Harwell previously revealing he had been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure and Wernicke’s encephalopathy, according to the publication.

The diagnosis of cardiomyopathy was made in 2013. It’s a disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder to pump blood to the rest of the body, it’s said Mayo Clinic.

Formed in 1994, Smash Mouth rose to prominence in the early 2000s with Harwell and bandmates Kevin Coleman, Greg Camp and Paul De Lisle.

The original Shrek film (2001) contained the two hits “I’m a Believer” and “All-Star”.

Harwell left the band in 2021 after a controversial performance in New York at the Big Sip beer festival.

The footage went viral after Harwell seemingly slurred his words, delivered an “inaudible speech” and even appeared to give a Nazi salute Los Angeles Times reported.

After leaving the band, Harwell issued a statement announcing his retirement TMZ.

“Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of being a rock star who performs to capacity crowds, and I’ve been very fortunate to make that dream a reality,” he said.

“My bandmates have been honored to perform with you all these years and I can’t think of anyone I would rather have embarked on this wild journey with.”
