DURHAM – Freshman AJ Griffin scored 19 points and the six Blue Devils hit doubles when Duke #2 overcame South Carolina State 103-62 on Tuesday night.
In 21 minutes of play from the bench, Griffin made 7/8 shots, while also recording 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Classmate Trevor Keels 14 more points, premium Joey Baker score 13 and freshman Paolo Banchero had 12 along with seven rebounds and six assists.
The match ended at 6 before the Blue Devils started running 29-8. Duke took a 33-point lead after halftime and increased the lead to 47 points in the second half.
Edward Oliver-Hampton had 13 points, four rebounds and three steals to lead the Bulldogs (3-8).
Duke: The Blue Devils haven’t competed since their loss to Ohio State on November 30 but were able to shake off the rust and land a convincing win. Duke still defended sharp, holding the Bulldogs to 4/20 shot from a distance of 3 points.
In the second of four straight home games, the Blues host the Appalachian State on Thursday at 7pm on ESPN2.
