“Sister, you are great. You Got This.”: Letitia Wright talks about hearing Chadwick Boseman’s voice while filming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Chadwick Bosemans Presence continues to be felt from his “Black Panther” castmates, such as Letizia Wright. The actor, who played the title role in the 2018 blockbuster, died in 2020 after a four-year private battle with cancer. He was 43.

While a sequel to the box-office hit was in limbo in the months following his death, production finally began in June 2021. Wright, who plays Black Panther’s younger sister Shuri, said returning to the set without Boseman left her wondering how she was doing creating would continue the film in his absence.

“I’m always going to have moments of doubt on set, and I’m going to be like, ‘Oh man, I don’t know if I can do this,'” she told PEOPLE during D23 Expo on Sept. 10. In those moments , Wright said the actor would give her the guidance and validation she needed. “I could only hear [Boseman] be like, “Sister, you’re awesome. You can do this. I’m proud of you.’ That really got me going,” she added.

Actor Winston Duke, who plays M’Baku in the Black Panther films, added that Boseman is a quiet, powerful person. “Sometimes you don’t realize how much space people like that take up until they’re gone. He was one of those people who led by example and just led the way by showing up every day and being at their best,” Duke said.

The film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to pay homage to Boseman. When the first trailer was released in July of this year, social media was left in tatters. It features a mural of Boseman as King T’Challa, as well as an emotionally moving scene in which Angela Bassett’s character, Queen Ramonda, exclaims that she has lost her entire family.

The highly anticipated film is slated to hit theaters on November 11th.
