Showrunner Hope to continue the story

Horror series – mystery “Archive 81” has built a significant fanbase since it first debuted on Netflix on January 14, and a week later was the #1 show on the entire streaming service. That means a large number of viewers are undoubtedly wondering, will there be “Archive 81” Season 2?

If showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine has her way, the answer is yes.

Speaking to TheWrap in an interview prior to the show’s release, Sonnenshine confirmed that “Archive 81” is not an anthology and that the idea would be to continue the story of Dan (Mamoudou Athie), Melody (Dian) Shihabi) and others for a second Season. “The idea is that we continue with these characters in a new season, if we’re lucky enough to get a second season,” Sonnenshine said. “It was not conceived as a one-season show. I think there are more stories to tell. I think we’re going to end up with a good problem to be solved and we introduce a lot of characters around Dan and Melody whose lives are very rich and interesting to explore further. So yes, we hope to continue. “

Netflix has yet to officially order a second season.

But Sonnenshine and her screenwriters were brainstorming ideas for “Archive 81” Part 2. “We really wanted to do a second part,” Sonnenshine said. “We were brainstorming. We have ideas. The writers are really excited to continue telling the story. We love our actors so much, we love the world. So the fingers cross each other”.

Among the characters whose story will continue in Season 2 is the enigmatic Virgil Davenport (Martin Donovan), who was last seen getting hit on the head by Mark (Matt McGworthy), as well as Melody’s mother. Sonnenshine confirmed that there was a lot more coming from both of these characters, and in fact, many of the stories that were planned for them couldn’t fit into the first eight episodes of the season.

Another burning question that needs to be answered in a potential second season: Where is Samuel? “I mean, I don’t know, where could he be? I would say stay tuned for Season 2,” was all Sonnenshine allowed.

So when fans finish the season and that shocking cliff, rest assured knowing that “Archive 81” Season 2 is a lot of things writers and presenters want to tackle. Now, all we need is an official light from Netflix.
