Shocking Discovery: A terrifying giant wasp nest has been found in an abandoned house in Healesville, Victoria

Footage of a mammoth wasp nest found in a Victorian house has gone viral online and the pest control company has been hired to deal with the nest, which described the discovery as “terrifying”.

Pest control company DAP Pest Control posted original footage of the nest on its social media pages in March 2022.

In the video, pest control officer Dale Armel shows an abandoned home in Healesville infested with European wasps. As he walks through the house, he makes his way to a bathroom that houses a giant nest hanging from the ceiling.

“Fricken hell, oh my god,” he says in the video.

“It’s like an alien. If you could see that with your own eyes, it’s really terrifying.

“I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Footage captured by the company has since resurfaced and gone viral once again. It racked up 1.3 million views on TikTok in early January, prompting many social media users to express their disgust and horror at the horrifying discovery.

“Like something from outer space,” commented one TikTok user.

“This is what nightmares are made of,” said another.

Speaking to 7NEWS, Armel said it was the biggest wasp nest he’s ever seen in his pest extermination career.

“Usually underground wasp nests are in the ground or they just burrow into a little hole in a wall somewhere and we usually take care of that pretty quickly,” he said.

“Because of COVID… and it was an unoccupied house, it just went unnoticed and grew over time.”

Armel said as many as a thousand wasps may have lived in the nest, which appeared to have grown over a period of approximately eight to 12 months.

It took a total of three days to dispose of the controllers.

For homeowners who find a wasp nest on their property, Armel said it’s best to leave it alone and call professionals right away.

“If you see small wasp nests in your home, tackle it immediately…don’t let it grow.”
