Shazam! Fury of the Gods Director Teases Hero’s DCU Future

Little is known about how the current series of DC Studios films will connect to the new, revamped DC Universe that James Gunn and Peter Safran are working on. This includes the hero Shazam, which director David F. Sandberg may feature in future films.

In a recent tweet replying to a fan who was hesitant to announce the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods because of the uncertainty surrounding Shazam’s future in the DC Universe, Sandberg said if people didn’t see the film, he definitely wouldn’t do it.

Sandberg continued that “there is nothing in the Shazam movies that contradicts future plans for DC,” and that it’s possible the character will show up in the future. However, the filmmaker reiterated that it’s best to watch the film if people want more from it.

“He definitely won’t if people don’t see the film,” Sandberg said. “I’ve been told that nothing in the Shazam films contradicts future plans for DC. So the opportunity for more Shazam is there, and if you want that, you better watch the movie.”

Shazam! wrath of the gods will see the return of Asher Angel and Zachary Levi as they reprise their respective roles as Billy Batson and Shazam. They are joined by returning cast members Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy, Faithe Herman and Meagan Good as Darla, Ian Chen and Ross Bulter as Eugene, Grace Fulton as Mary, Jovan Arman and DJ Cotrona as Pedro, Marta Milans, Cooper Andrews , and Djimon Hounsou.

Following the defeat of Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins two years ago, the sequel will pit the Shazam family against much more dangerous and divine threats, with the introduction of the daughters of Atlas – Hespera and Calypso, to be portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren and kill Bill Actress Lucy Liu. Westside Story Star Rachel Zeigler has also been cast.
