Shaquille O’Neal opens up about his goofy parenting style and his ‘six perfect kids’

Shaquille O’Neal is the father of six beautiful children who rarely make the headlines except to highlight their latest basketball moves. Several of his children are modeled after their legendary father in hopes of becoming professional ball players. However, the former Los Angeles Lakers star recently admitted he couldn’t praise his “perfect” kids when it came to discipline. The former ball player can be as relaxed as he comes.

The four-time champion opened up about his parenting style during an appearance on Yahoo Life’s ‘So Mini Ways’ series. “Growing up, I was the fun parent with my kids,” he said. Shaq’s approach also leads him to draw on real-world difficulties that his children would not otherwise have experienced due to his success.

“The first thing I say to them is, ‘Yes, we live like this. It’s only a small percentage that lives like that.’ Then I take her around the corner to her cousin’s house and I’m like, ‘Look what I told you,'” he said. “Were here; we won’t run from it. You can stay here, but that’s what you have to do.”

The successful businessman shared that he has never had to be physically violent towards his children. “I never beat up my kids. I used to chase them around like I was a wild dog. ‘Didn’t I tell you to come here?’ Especially when they were little… So it was a little bit different, but it worked for me,” he explained.

The job hasn’t been easy, and the Hall of Famer does far from boasting alone. Shaq told the outlet, “I can honestly say that, and I don’t like to throw that word around, but I have six perfect children.”

He added: “They never gave me any problems. You always listened; They were always respectful. I can’t say I did it all by myself. I had two wonderful mothers who actually did most of the work.”

Shaq’s village consists of a 25-year-old daughter, Taahirah, whom he shares with former girlfriend Arnetta Yardbourgh. He shares Shareef, 22, Amirah, 20, Shaqir, 18, and Me’arah, 15, with his ex-wife Shaunie. The former couple’s three eldest children all play basketball at some level. Shaq is also father to 25-year-old fashion designer Myles from Shaunie’s previous relationship. Shaquille O’Neal opens up about his goofy parenting style and his ‘six perfect kids’
