Shane Wright leads the heavy forward group – The Athletic

Welcome to the first standings of the 2022 NHL Draft season. One theme is that Europe and the US NTDP crops look good this season. In particular, the European group is supported by a unique Slovak age group, with two candidates in the top 10 and three candidates in the first round.

Another theme is that the early 2004 Canadian age group doesn’t look too strong beyond Shane Wright and the Winnipeg duo of Conor Geekie and Matthew Savoie with Adam Fantilli warning being late 2004 and qualifying in 2023. harder to pin due to limited playtime. I expect the boys to emerge as the season progresses but as of right now, no one has really claimed to be a real promising top NHL.

I’ve cut off 23 of my top-tier leads, though I expect that number to grow by a few more as the season progresses. For now, this draft layer looks average. Wright looks like a standard #1 pick, similar to some of the most recent #1 picks like Owen Power, Alexis Lafrenière and Jack Hughes, and the rest of the talent in the class in a typical way. This seems like a more striker-heavy grouping, and unlike some recent drafts, at least has top goalkeeping prospects.

TIER 1: NHL Expected All-Star

1. Shane Wright, C, Kingston-OHL

Wright enters the season as the favorite to be the top pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He’s not the flashiest No.1 striker you’ll ever see and, to be honest, he is. didn’t look as sharp as expected at the start of the season. He’s still the first-chosen favorite but no longer the obvious favorite. His hit is elite, and a real difference for him compared to the draft and potentially at NHL level. | Shane Wright leads the heavy forward group – The Athletic
