Ashleigh Barty sent shockwaves through the tennis world when she announced her sudden retirement at the age of 25. The tennis ace announced her decision just weeks after winning the Australian Open earlier this year. The Australian has garnered a huge following over the years for her calm and composed approach to tennis. Therefore, her sudden retirement came as a shock to the 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams.

Serena tweeted: “@ashbarty I can’t lie I was sad to read your decision but also happy for your new chapter. Always your fan near and far. Send all my love.”

Although Serena Williams has not played competitive tennis in over six months due to injury and is unsure of her return date, the WTA legend has admitted she is not giving much thought to retiring from the sport.

Williams, now 40, is widely regarded as the finest player to grace modern-day women’s tennis Margaret Courts A record 24 Grand Slam singles titles is pretty much the only goal the younger Williams sister has yet to achieve.

But after declaring she wants to expand her family and manage a new start-up mutual fund — Serena Ventures — it’s clear there are other competing priorities in her life.

“I think every tennis player thinks about the R-word [retirement] Once they hit five, because tennis is so intense, it’s literally 11 months out of the year. But I do not know. I live for the day and I always tell people, “I don’t plan for tomorrow, only in business, and when it comes to tennis, I only plan for today.” revealed Williams in an interview with Bloomberg.

Uncertainty continues to surround Williams’ return to the WTA Tour. She has not competed in Indian Wells and there is no indication that she plans to compete in any of the clay court tournaments in April that follow the “Sun Swing”.

Due to a game absence dating back to Wimbledon 2021, where she withdrew in the first round with an injury, the former world No. 1 currently sits at No. 240 in the world.
