Separate shootings in Baltimore raise concerns among residents – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Homicide detectives are investigating separate shootings that killed two men on different sides of the city on Sunday, authorities said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at the 2200 block of Cedley Street at 4:06pm Sunday.

There they found a 25-year-old man who had been shot in the head, police said.

According to the authorities, doctors pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Witnesses reported hearing a single “pop,” something resembling an air gun.

Less than four hours later, homicide detectives were called to the 1500 block of East 28th Street to investigate another shooting.

According to the authorities, the police found a man there with multiple gunshot wounds.

A paramedic took the shooting victim to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The deadly shootings are the latest violent incident in Baltimore — and they’re all too familiar to some residents.

South Baltimore’s Jerry Johnson says he hears gunshots all the time.

“I have kids and all I care about is my kids,” he said.

Owning a gun in a city that communicates through violence “is like a pair of pants,” Johnson said.

Earlier in the day, an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were shot dead on the 1800 block of North Charles Street.

They combed the area looking for shell casings and other evidence. Until then, the two men had traveled south into Mount Vernon, police said.

They were taken to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

“We know this is an area that has a lot of nightlife and stuff like that, but we will provide updates as we learn more from the police force,” Mayor Brandon Scott told WJZ.

But those words mean little to residents like Johnson.

“They are asking city officials what is being done about it. They say something is being done about it, but we’re here and we’re not seeing anything,” Johnson said.

Violent crime preoccupies Baltimore residents as the city rushes from one shocking incident to another.

On Friday, Johns Hopkins trauma and acute surgeon, Dr. Madhu Subramanian, shot dead in an attempted carjacking on East 36th Street in northeast Baltimore.

Subramanian was on his way to work when the shooting happened around 7am

A witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said he saw someone step into the street and fire more than a dozen bullets at the doctor.

Subramanian was taken to the hospital where he was treated by his own team.
