Seniors stranded in Detroit apartment building after weeks without elevator repairs

DETROIT – Seniors stranded in an apartment building with a single elevator that hasn’t worked in weeks have come forward help me hank.

Some have resorted to purchasing Life Alert devices because of concerns about the physical strain climbing stairs is putting on their health.

Cynthia Gardner struggles to get up the stairs. She addressed the elevator in her apartment building West Boston Blvd in Detroit has been out for almost a month. It’s the only elevator in the building.

She has invested in a life alarm device because she is worried about her health. She said the exertion of climbing stairs takes its toll.

“My heart is beating out of control and I already have asthma. It’s just a problem,” Gardner said.

Local 4 contacted the onsite facility manager but received no response. Local 4’s Hank Winchester then went to 1st City LLC, which manages the building. No one in the office would speak and was told the boss was on a plane.

Hank Winchester got that City of Detroit involved. An inspector is now investigating and putting pressure on the management company to solve the problem.

“In that case, we have a promise that we’ll take care of it before the end of the week. You should be given the necessary equipment to complete the repair and by the end of the week if it’s not ready. We will issue tickets. Hundreds of dollars,” said Glenn Davis of the City of Detroit Building Safety Department.

The situation was so bad that one of the tenants in the apartment complex got a life alarm chain if something horrible happened while climbing the stairs. But after Help Me Hank got involved, the broken elevator in the building was fixed.
