Sega just released trailers for two new ones yakuza Games on the way: Yakuza 8the next main game in the series (and one we had already seen and knew about), and Like a dragon Gaiden, a brand new announcement starring series star Kazuma Kiryu. That makes these three yakuza announcements in a week for Sega, after yesterday’s unveiling of Like a dragon: Ishin!

comes first yakuza 8, who Ichiban seems to have abandoned as the sole star in favor of a shared adventure with Kiryu, the man no one can say goodbye to. Please note that Sega doesn’t actually use them yakuza Names no more, that is, officially Like a dragon 8but it will take a while to get used to, so let’s just keep calling it for now Yakuza 8:

The eighth game in the main series will be released in 2024 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. I…I don’t know how to process what they did to Kiryu’s hair here, and to be honest I don’t want to talk about it right now. Instead, let’s move on to the other Kiryu-related project that was demoed overnight, called Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name:

now This is interesting. It not only fills in some narrative gaps and shows us what Kiryu was up to in between Yakuza 6 & 7, but it’s also aimed specifically at fans who enjoy the older playstyle (pre Yakuza 7 Leap to turn-based combat), with a big focus on action-based combat. The game is also reportedly a smaller, more manageable affair that lacks mainline spread yakuza Games, so hopefully it comes a little cheaper too.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will be released in 2023.
