There is a lot of talk about prospects from New York. After much speculation, it was confirmed that the New York Mets would pick Brett Baty, the second overall pick, and start at third base for their game against the Atlanta Braves on August 17. Baty made an immediate impression In his first career at bat, he smashed a two-run homer with the Mets.
While Mets fans were thrilled that one of the team’s promising young stars hit a home run, there was nobody happier than his family, who were in attendance at Truist Park.

When third baseman Luis Guillorme suffered a groin injury, fans were hoping the team would call up Baty, who has played extremely well in double- and triple-A this season. The move wasn’t immediate but was made official on Wednesday when the team put infielder Eduardo Escobar on the injured list.
Baty stepped to the plate after a double with outfielder Mark Canha on base. On the second pitch thrown by Jake Odorizzi, Baty made his first swing as the ball flew over the right field wall to extend the Mets’ lead to 4-0.
This was the first of many home runs with the team that Mets fans are hoping for. There is no better way to record your first career hit. Not only was it a home run, it was in front of his family. What a great moment for the Baty family.
