“Secret: Untold Melody” and “The Dinner” expand the Finecut sales menu

Korean distribution agent Finecut has added “Secret: Untold Melody” and “The Dinner” to its upcoming list of Asian content and films. Both titles come from a deal with Hive Media Corp. (“Inside Men”, “The Man Standing Next”).
Adapted from the 2007 Taiwan hit ‘Secret’, ‘Secret: Untold Melody’ is a romance film about a pianist and a college student. While the original film starred Jay Chou and Gwei Lun-mei, it features Korean makeover Doh Kyung-soo (aka DO from acclaimed K-pop group EXO), an actor whose credits include Swing Kids and The Along With The Gods franchise and rising star Won Jin-a (Netflix’s Hellbound). The film, which is currently in post-production, will be directed by Seo You-min (“Recalled”).
The dark comedy The Dinner is the first Asian adaptation of Herman Koch’s bestselling novel of the same name, which skewers the middle class in a tale of two families whose children have committed crimes. It was previously produced as a film in the US, Italy and the Netherlands.
Hur Jin-ho (“Christmas in August”) leads a cast that includes Seol Kyung-gu “The Merciless”, Claudia Kim (“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” and “The Avengers: Age Of Ultron”), and Jang include Dong-gun (“The Rampant”) and Kim Hee-ae (“The World of the Married” on TV). The film is also in post-production.
Finecut also manages the rights to Greenhouse, which will be screened in the Vision section of the Busan International Film Festival this week. Directed by Lee Sol-huithe, the film follows the pain and suffering of a woman suffering from a mental disorder.
Fresh from Toronto and San Sebastian, Finecut hits the Busan market where it debuted with Hong Sangsoo’s Walk Up.
