The Seattle Seahawks blew quarterback Russell Wilson into oblivion by using his “Let’s Ride” slogan against him.
At the start of the 2022 season, nobody gave the Seattle Seahawks a fighting chance against the Denver Broncos, who were led by their former quarterback Russell Wilson. With Wilson on the list, Denver developed sky-high expectations, including returning to the playoffs for the first time since winning Super Bowl 50.
But on Monday Night Football’s season premiere, the Seahawks defeated the Broncos 17-16 after head coach Nathaniel Hackett picked Wilson, who was fourth and fifth in favor of a 64-yard field goal attempt by Brandon McManuswhich was not good.
Seahawks use Russell Wilson’s “let’s ride” catchphrase to troll him
The social media team may have flipped the catchphrase, but so did the players on the list. Most notable was defense attorney Shelby Harris, who came to Seattle via the Wilson trade. Speaking to NFL Network’s James Palmer after the game, Harris said, “I just gotta say, let’s drive.”
Former Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu and Take 12 Podcast co-host Brett Davern even went so far as to parody Wilson’s catchphrase: “let’s ride“T shirts.
It wasn’t just the team that trolled Wilson. A Twitter user overlaid Wilson with the words “Bronco’s country, let’s ride” over McManus’ 64-yard field goal attempt that fell wide to the left.
In his first start with the Broncos, Wilson completed 29 of 42 pass attempts for 340 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Geno Smith threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns while completing 23 of his 28 throws.
Seattle “rides” high after their big win. Now they’re looking to improve their record to 2-0 with a win over rivals San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.
