Sea of ​​Thieves Season 7 update video outlines Captaincy, the Sovereigns, milestones and more

Sea of ​​Thieves Season 7 is just days away, and it seems that fans have a lot to look forward to. New cosmetics and loot pass items are of course a given at this point, but Season 7 will bring with it the long-awaited Captaincy update, finally allowing players to purchase and name their own ships as they set sail. A recent update video from Rare showed off the impressive amount of new content coming into play following the start of the new season on August 4th.

The Captaincy update is arguably the biggest draw here. Players will be able to buy one of each of the three ship types – sloops, brigantines and galleons – and give it their own unique and no doubt very well thought out name. However, there is much more to captainship than just naming your ship Boaty McBoatface. The Captain’s Cabin can be customized to match Trading Posts, allowing players to swap out their tables, chairs, rugs, and more. A new type of item known as trinkets will also be made available to further spice up the ship’s interior.

Season 7 will also add a new progression system to the game known as Milestones. Milestones are a series of tasks and achievements related to all sorts of aspects of the game, including repairing your ship and earning gold through quests. They’re spread across five different alignments, each corresponding to a different playstyle, from the money-hungry prospector to the menacing-sounding The Feared. Completing milestones serves as another way to unlock certain ship customization options.

The new season will also introduce the Sovereigns, a new breed of traders found at every trading post. They only deal with Captains, but if you can get along well with them, they can make selling your loot that much easier, with handy locations and a handy harpoon to reel in your treasure chests right off your deck. There are also many smaller adjustments, including an expansion of shipwright’s goods and a handy captain’s log for keeping track of various ship information. Season 7 of Sea of ​​Thieves is set to weigh anchor on August 4th.
