Scream topped the box office, and we’re not surprised at all.
The fifth film in the series about the killer was released in cinemas on Friday, with Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell once again leading the cast.
They were joined in the fight against Ghostface by newcomers Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Dylan Minnette, and Jenna Ortega.
According to reports, it didn’t take long for the film to hit the top spot, grossing an estimated $30.6 million (£22 million) at the US box office.
It also works well globally, with Hollywood Reporter says it has grossed $18m (£13m) worldwide with $3.4m (£2.4m) in the UK.
This beat the opening weekend of Scream 4, which was released in 2011 with an opening weekend of $19.3 million (£14 million).
Not too bad…
The latest film in the Scream series hit the big screen on Friday to rave reviews – with Metro.co.uk giving it an impressive 4.5 stars.
’25 years after a series of brutal murders rocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, California, a new killer wears a Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to revive secrets. secrets from the town’s deadly past,” the official synopsis reads.
The tagline adds to the suspense, adding: ‘It’s always someone you know.’
Since the horror sequel was announced, fans have been sitting in their seats waiting to see who can lie under the mask of Ghostface.
It turns out that some members of the Scream cast are also completely in the dark, confessing to Metro.co.uk that they have absolutely no idea about the ending.
In fact, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have come up with scripts with various scenes to keep suspicion and ensure nothing leaks before the official release.
“Definitely the first script I read was a different ending,” Melissa, who plays Sam Carpenter, tells us.
‘Then when we all got to Wilmington and we read our first board, we just gave up until page 80, the end of the second act.
‘So in the table reading we don’t know what the real ending will be like. It keeps us motivated to doubt each other. ‘
Jack, who joins the cast as Richie, agrees: ‘Strange, it fits the meta! We’re doing an actor and we, as actors, are trying to figure out who’s playing the killer.
“It’s weird, it’s weird.”
Now the screaming is in the cinema.
