Scott Bakula will not appear in the Quantum Leap reboot

Scott Bakula, known to be Dr. Sam Beckett, who played in the 1989 original series Quantum Leap, released a statement on Instagram confirming his lack of involvement in the upcoming NBC reboot series.

“Here’s the simple version of what’s going on with the Quantum Leap reboot and I have no connection to the new show, either on or off camera,” Bakula’s Instagram post read.

Speculation about Bakula’s involvement in the 2022 revival has surrounded the show since the pilot episode got the green light in January this year, although there were no communications regarding Bakula’s role until the actor released the new statement.

“Having always loved the show, moving the project forward was a very difficult decision, a decision that has confused and upset so many fans of the original series,” Bakula continued.

The original series ran for five seasons from 1989 to 1993, with an ambiguous series finale that left the fate of Bakula’s character up in the air. One of the last title cards of the finale read, “Sam Beckett never came home,” fueling fan speculation about his involvement in the revival. The new series, which premieres September 19 on NBC, is set to continue the events of the original series 30 years later, with a new cast led by Raymond Lee, Ernie Hudson and Anastasia Antonia.

Bakula ended his statement about his lack of involvement in the new series with a message of hope and support for the revival’s cast and crew: “My fingers are crossed that this new cast and crew will be lucky enough to harness the magic that the original has driven a quantum leap into the hearts and minds of past and present generations.”
