School bus accident: Dozens of children were taken to hospital after a truck ran into a school bus in Bacchus Marsh

A teenage girl has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a truck collided with a school bus in north-west Melbourne early Wednesday morning.

The truck crashed into the school bus at around 3.15am on the Western Freeway near the Condons Lane junction.

As a result of the impact, the bus rolled down an embankment with 27 female students, four adults and a bus driver.

A teenage girl was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries while the male truck driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The remaining students and the four adults were taken to the hospital for observation.

The Western Freeway lanes leading into Melbourne are expected to remain closed for several hours.

Motorists were urged to take an alternative route and use either Halletts Way or Gisborne Road to return to the motorway.
