Sara Bareilles will perform at New York’s Capitol Theater for a special benefit concert commemorating National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the 30th Anniversary of the Pace Women’s Justice Center. The non-profit organization, which aims to protect the rights of victims of domestic violence, will host the “Raising the Bar Benefit Concert” on Thursday.
Bareilles, known for her piano-driven pop-soul and emotional lyricism, was tapped by the organization to “give a voice to the difficult journey from victim to survivor,” according to the event’s press release.
“It’s exciting to have Sara Bareilles join our benefit concert to raise awareness for victims of domestic violence,” added Cindy Kanusher, Executive Director of PWJC. “At a time when the rights of so many people are being challenged, it is imperative that we continue our work and protect the rights of women and victims of abuse.”
PWJC will also honor board member Pam Kaufman with the Making a Difference Award – a recognition of active members of the organization. Kaufman is President and CEO of International Markets, Global Consumer Products and Experiences at Paramount Global and, according to the nonprofit, “For over five years, she has been a devoted Advocate on the Advisory Board, generously sharing her professional understanding and compassion for the social justice challenges facing our facing customers.”
“I am deeply moved by the lifesaving work of the Pace Women’s Justice Center,” Kaufman said. “Cindy Kanusher and the team at PWJC have dedicated their lives to supporting and counseling victims of domestic violence in their greatest need. I am honored to be recognized by PWJC and honored to support this important organization.”
Money raised at the Raising the Bar benefit concert will support PWJC’s commitment to improving access to justice and providing free legal advice to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Information on single tickets and more can be found here.
Bareilles recently completed an eight-week engagement in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s fantasy musical Into the Woods. The production released their cast album digitally on September 30, with a CD due December 2. The singer-songwriter has another special performance in her hometown of Eureka, California on October 16.
