Saints rookie kicked out of practice because he can’t stop fighting teammates

Saints rookie tackle Trevor Penning makes his presence felt in training camp. He was kicked out of practice for fighting three days in a row.

With the 19th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Saints of New Orleans selected Trevor Penning, offensive tackle from Northern Iowa.

While his 6-foot-7, 325-pound frame easily fills the shoes of an NFL tackle, it was his attitude that deterred some teams from picking him. The fierceness with which he played in college was quickly translated to the next level

He just got kicked out of practice for struggling – for the third day in a row!

On the one hand, a quarterback needs to feel safe when he’s being protected with his blindside by someone who wants to maul anyone who stands in front of him. Then again, if Penning can’t switch off that mentality, he won’t make many friends in the dressing room at training camp.

Trevor Penning can’t stop causing fights at Saints practice

As noted, Penning’s stance was viewed by many prior to the draft as a detriment to his selection. In his defense, however, playing in Northern Iowa — a smaller school with less competition — forced him to develop a style of play that would stand out.

He has always been praised for his finishing skills and has frequently been called the “baddest” tackle in the 2022 class. It’s all thanks to the monster he created between his ears, which in turn is wreaking havoc in the Saints’ camp.

Another weak spot for the rookie is that at this point in the off-season, practice gets crisper every year in the league. Teammates have been fighting day after day for weeks and everyone is looking forward to the time when they are faced with a different colored jersey.

We’ll see in the coming weeks whether or not Trevor Penning’s bullish mentality translates into a regular with the Saints. Meanwhile, his tiresome antics keep Saints fans anxiously awaiting the start of the season on the move.
