Saints make a big play for future QB in trade with Eagles

The New Orleans Saints are now in a great position to find their new quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft after trading picks with the Eagles.

The 2022 NFL Draft is still a few weeks away, but the Saints and Eagles got the party started early with a huge trade in multiple first-round picks.

Essentially, Philadelphia is trading two of its three first-round picks to the Saints for future draft funds.

New Orleans is now inviting the picks for 2022 and a quarterback could be the focus.

What does the Saints trade mean?

That’s a lot of picks traded for relatively little movement in the middle of the first round.

It’s all about flexibility for the Saints, who just brought Jameis Winston back on a two-year deal.

They went from just the No. 18 in the first round to the Nos. 16 and No. 19. You could turn those picks into an even better first-rounder and potentially move up to No. 5.

If New Orleans considers one of the top quarterbacks in this class to be “their man,” they could absolutely do something to get him with their new draft capital.

Alternatively, they could wait for someone to fall to them in the middle of the first while having another pick available to use on wide receiver or offensive tackle.

Immediately, some on Twitter speculated that the move to No. 16 was specifically about overtaking the Chargers in No. 17. LA is also in the market for a first-round left tackle.

If the #16 pick is an offensive lineman, the Saints should still have an opportunity to take their quarterback at #18 since the Chargers don’t have a need at that position.

Worst comes to worst, New Orleans is unable to get the quarterback they want by either acting or staying pat. They can still use their three top 50 picks to fill in gaps in their roster with cheaper and younger players.

The key is designing the right ones, which is always easier said than done, no matter the position. Saints make a big play for future QB in trade with Eagles
