Saint Peter’s, Kansas advances to Elite Eight

Saint Peter’s Peacocks made history when they beat Purdue’s Boiling No. 3 team to advance to the Elite Eight, becoming the first 15 seed to do so.

Never before have 15 seeds in the NCAA Tournament ever made it to the Elite Eight. The furthest they went was Sweet 16. That all changed with the presence of Saint Peter’s Peacock 2021-22.

On Friday night, the Peacocks defeated Purdue Boiling No. 3 with a score of 67-64 to advance to the Elite Eight.

Saint Peter’s tied everything with 57 points and then led 59-57 with consecutive jumps taken by Daryl Banks III. The Peacocks made it 65-61 after three runs to the free-throw line, resulting in six points. But Purdue wasn’t dead yet, as Jaden Ivey made three pointers with eight seconds left to cut their deficit to 65-54.

Ivey attempted to put the match into injury time with another three-point effort, but it failed, giving Saint Peter’s the win and an Elite Eight landing.

Banks finished the game with 14 points (6-eat-14 from the field) and three rebounds.

Kansas advances to Elite Eight with victory over Providence

Going into Friday night, only one seed of the entire tournament remained – the Kansas Jayhawks. That remained the case, as the Jayhawks beat the Providence Brothers No. 4 with a score of 66-61.

Kansas took a 26-17 lead against Providence going into halftime. The brothers were back in the second half with 44 points scored. However, the Jayhawks rallied 40 in the final 20 minutes to hold on and continue their run as the only top seed left in the NCAA Tournament.

The sophomore Jayhawks, Jalen Wilson, had a brace in the game, scoring 16 points (5 for 16 from the field) and picking up 11 rebounds.
