Saint Louis heads west to face Bang Boise on Tuesday night in a battle of mid-range opponents.
The Billikens got off to a 6-1 start with their only loss coming to Memphis on the road, but will face their next toughest test to date on Tuesday night at the Boise State.
The Broncos are 3-3 for the year with a pair of losses to quality rivals at UC-Irvine and St. Bonaventure, but arguably the worst loss in show history this weekend to Cal State Bakersfield 46-39. Head coach Leon Rice called it a “pathetic” performance.
“In my 12 years, it was the worst showdown I’ve ever seen,” said Rice.
I was able to get this number in Saint Louis + 4.5 in a game where I predicted them to be favorites (you can find my plays in real time here), so I still like them to be on one basket.
While Saint Louis played very well in dribbling and creating second chances, the real advantage for them in this game was in defence, where they were able to overwhelm a Boise attack. are having difficulty.
First, Bilks are top 20 in rotation and Boise have struggled to get the ball into the box, now facing unrelenting pressure from the defense. BSU falls outside the top 300 nationally by three percentage points and gets under 60% from the charity strip.
This could be a long season for Rice’s side, which are struggling to rack up more than 60 points on a regular basis. Ultimately, Saturday’s under-40 game against Cal State Bakersfield could be just another worrisome sign in a season filled with them. I’m advocating Saint Louis’ nasty defensive and physical offensive behavior to cause more trouble and to cover up the contagion.
PICK: Saint Louis + 2.5
