A Florida man is accused of shooting and slashing his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend. While the ex was the one who allegedly showed up uninvited, it was the defendant in this case who crossed the line by running for a gun and pulling the trigger during an altercation, deputies said.

Hawkins, the defendant, is said to have left the residence and got into an argument with his ex-boyfriend.

Deputies emphasized that defendant Hawkins, not his ex, initiated the physical confrontation between the two of them by placing his hand on the unwanted guest. Hawkins is then said to have grabbed a brick and hit his ex-boyfriend on the shoulder. The ex-boyfriend then apparently grabbed Hawkins by the hair and punched him several times as the two men fell to the ground.

Video available later showed the ex-boyfriend being aggressive towards his girlfriend and using bricks towards her, delegates said. Hawkins went inside to retrieve a gun, then walked out with the gun in his back pocket, authorities added. While pointing a gun at her ex-boyfriend, Hawkins asked the ex-boyfriend to remove the bricks, authorities said next.

What happened next was the apparent nature of the case against the defendant.

Authorities allege that Hawkins immediately opened fire after ordering his ex-boyfriend to drop the bricks. The National Assembly member said:
