‘Russia out of Ukraine’ peace vigil to take place at Patterson Park on Sunday – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Members of Maryland Peace Action will hold a “Russia out of Ukraine” peace vigil across the street from St. Michael Ukraine in Patterson Park on Sunday.

This activist group aims to draw attention to the plight of the Ukrainians, which have been under attack by Russian forces for more than 30 days.

Group members said they felt called to action after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked the global community to speak out against Ukraine’s President Vladimir Putin’s attack on his country.

In an effort to reduce violence, the activist group is calling for a ceasefire and other proactive measures.

Its members speculate that there are diplomatic solutions that could please Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“For example, the United States could issue a proclamation suspending Ukraine’s membership in NATO for a period of 20 years,” the group said in a statement. “The Biden administration can remove American nuclear weapons from Europe. And finally, negotiations should take place regarding nuclear disarmament.”

Zelensky said in a video address posted on social media that people should let them see and hear, which is what Peace Action Maryland plans to do, according to group members.

The lights of M&T Bank Stadium, the home of the Baltimore Raven, and the lights of Oriole Park at Camden Yards also turn blue and yellow.

People across the city have organized fundraisers and sold homemade cakes to raise money for Ukrainians who are struggling to survive the war in their country.

At the state level, Maryland officials are trying to put economic pressure on Moscow by severing all official and financial ties with Russia.
