Russell Wilson is said to have opened the trade to surprise the suitor

Can Russell Wilson fit in with the newly formed Washington Commanders next season? While that seems unlikely, Wilson is said to be very open to it.

Washington has no shortage of talent, with head coach Ron Rivera leading a talented defensive team. Commanders a quarter away from being a real threat in NFC, and Wilson delivers.

While not a carbon copy, there are some similarities between Washington’s current crop and the Seahawks. Wilson helped lead the way to Super Bowl XLVIII.

Despite the controversy surrounding Commanders owner Dan Snyder at the moment, Wilson’s interest is believed to be genuine. He was seen chatting with Washington DT Jonathan Allen on the sidelines of the Pro Bowl, which garnered some social media buzz.

Washington Commanders: Is Russell Wilson a Realist?

Kevin Sheehan, a Washington sportsman and radio personality, heard that Wilson would accept a move to the DC area.

“I talked to a few people in Vegas,” Sheehan said on The Kevin Sheehan Show. “And the only thing I will tell you is something that I feel confident in, based on sources, and that is that Russell Wilson is not against doing business with Washington.”

Wilson has two years left on his contract. It’s not clear if the Seahawks are interested in trading him, but Wilson did provide them with a list of teams he’s willing to give up his no-trade clause to join the final season. Washington wasn’t on the list at the time, but could he be ready to join Team Command now?

“So the first part will be: Will Seattle really listen to the offers for Russell Wilson? I have no opinion on that answer. And then there’s the second part: Is Washington the type to step up and pay a lot of time? Now, I think the answer is yes. I think the answer to Washington stepping up and paying the price, and maybe paying more retail for Russell Wilson, I think that’s what they’re going to do.” Sheehan reported.

This is nothing against Taylor Heinicke, but Wilson will serve as a major upgrade in the position. Considering the solid defense Washington already has, the Commanders can challenge the Cowboys in the NFC East next season if Wilson is their signal caller.
