Former MVP and star Russell Westbrook has recently entered the advertising industry and diversified its business activities. It seems like a slightly distracting move, a step away from the game where he actually earns fame, name and money to begin with. But he seems to have shifted his focus away from basketball as he’s started to show more interest in the business side of things. Shannon Sharpe von Undisputed shared his thoughts on how Westbrook’s misguided priorities are affecting his basketball career, though his worries about his family’s future may be true.

After a terrible NBA season, Lakers roasters and young stars in gyms are sweating it out and making changes to their games. One would think that even in the gym, the heavily criticized Westbrook would work to improve his game, or at least make adjustments to his game under Darvin Ham. However, there have been reports that he has invested more in his extrajudicial business than in his basketball career.

Shannon Sharp was also shocked by Westbrook’s priorities during the offseason and blasted the megastar for his unprofessional behavior. When asked which is more important to Russell Westbrook, business or basketball, Sharpe said: “I felt his game last year showed that other things were more important. Just saying I have no problem… Russ is building the greatest empire! Build a $2, $3, $4, $5 billion empire. I have no problem with that. The only problem I had with Russ was that he refused to take responsibility when he was playing badly and when things weren’t going well.”

Russ earned his name in the NBA, achieved fame in the NBA and all commercial profits and even salaries come from his franchise and league. As such, he was expected to prioritize his game over other endeavors.

Russell Westbrook is already planning a post-NBA career

Former OKC megastar Westbrook has of course achieved a lot during his 13-year NBA career. He was a scoring champion, assist champion, and Most Valuable Player who was voted multiple All-Star. He’s even broken triple-double records. However, he has yet to win a championship. With his recent association with the Lakers, he was expected to aim for the title with a potentially very dynamic duo in AD-LBJ.

But since 2017, his team has always been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, with the exception of 2020 when James Harden and the Houston Rockets managed to get past Chris Paul and Westbrook’s former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and in 2022 they did he’s not putting the Lakers into the postseason.
