Rooster Teeth animated web series RWBY is receiving an anime spinoff from the Japanese studio behind Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The series seems to be called RWBY Ice Queendom and will be produced in collaboration between Rooster Teeth and Japanese animation studio Shaft.
But the announcement of this new series has been a bit complicated so far. Crunchyroll originally posted a statement on Thursday, but later deleted it, according to Anime News Network. However, the project also seems to have both English and Japanese Twitter account, along with some official posters and an entire Japanese website with news and details about the series. Despite all of this, there doesn’t seem to be a bigger announcement from Rooster Teeth themselves.
RWBY was created by Rooster Teeth (Red versus Blue, Gene: Key) in 2013. Currently, the series has an eighth season. Rooster Teeth partner for Ice Queendom is Shaft, a Japanese studio that has been producing anime series since 1995, including Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Nisekoiand the Monogatari series.
According to the show’s website, fans will likely learn more about the project during the AnimeJapan 2022 festival this weekend, though it’s unclear if this will include a trailer. The website also says the series will premiere later this year.
Update (March 26): This story has been updated to add the first trailer for the series, which was released Saturday morning.
