Ron Kulpa knocked out Terry Francona and Phil Nevin, then had to leave the game himself (video)

Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona lunged at the umpire during the team’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Is there really an MLB game if there’s no umpire controversy? Well, that’s exactly what happened during the September 12 game between the two Cleveland Guardian and Los Angeles Angels.

In the seventh inning, a low pitch by the Angels’ Ryan Tepera to Guardian shortstop Andres Gimenez was called the ball. Cleveland manager Terry Francona expressed his belief that his player was hit in the foot, guaranteeing he would capture first base. After meeting with his peers, Home Plate umpire Ron Kulpa said “no” to Francona. That threw Francona off track as he was kicked out of the game saying “fk you” to Kulpa multiple times.

But Kulpa wasn’t finished yet.

Terry Francona and Phil Nevin were ejected by referee Ron Kulpa during Guardians

After Francona was ejected, Tepera tried to get some warm-up pitches due to the long delay. Kulpa had none of it, saying “because I said so” when challenged by him The angel Jug. Manager Phil Nevin went onto the field to speak to Kulpa and was eventually ejected as well.

Between pitches, both Francona and Nevin were thrown by Kulpa. You can watch the full sequence in the tweet below, courtesy of Twitter user “@gifs_baseball”.

But at the end of the ninth inning, Kulpa was forced out of the game as he was hit in the face mask by a foul ball. This happened with two outs and two strikes on the board.

A really frantic ending to the Guardians Angels game. Who won, Cleveland clinched the 5-4 win.
