Rodgers unhappy with running in EFL Cup loss

Brendan Rodgers has criticized the referee’s ‘bad’ performance during Leicester’s EFL Cup quarter-final loss to Liverpool on Wednesday.

Andy Madley was the man in the middle of Anfield and was left with a tough decision to make after just 10 minutes as Reds youngster Tyler Morton knocked Ricardo Pereira down with a tackle.

The 19-year-old was only shown a yellow card to the surprise of the Northern Ireland player.

“It was a terrible ordeal,” former Liverpool manager speaking after the game (via HITC).

“It was a poor challenge but I think the referee was bad all night.

“You know me, I don’t usually comment on referees. But there are reservations that should have taken place in the first half.

“We had a moment where Madder [James Maddison] is out, and if he’s away he makes the pass and we’re in the dangerous position we were in during the first half.

“It was Jordan (Henderson) that was smart and fouled and didn’t have a yellow card.

“Then in the second half he gave yellow cards which was not a big deal. I thought the referee was bad all night, to be honest.”

If Jurgen Klopp’s army was reduced to 10 men, the game would certainly be very different.

The starting standard is a hot topic right now, but since VAR was not used in the EFL Cup, perhaps Morton was lucky to stay on the field while the referee didn’t get a chance to review the challenge.

There were moments in the first half when the visitors easily cut across our half and looked as if they were scoring every time they crossed the halfway line.

The introduction of Ibrahima Konate at half-time, alongside James Milner and Diogo Jota, dramatically changed the game and ensured Leicester were no longer struggling in their own way.

It ended up being a great night at Anfield and while the EFL Cup hasn’t really been our priority this season, it’s still a great honor and an opportunity for more silverware. Rodgers unhappy with running in EFL Cup loss
