Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag was not at all happy when he was forced to return to the pavilion after an ugly mix-up with senior player Ravichandran Ashwin against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday 24 May at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.

‌This incident happened in the penultimate over when he went at bat and scored four runs from the three balls he faced. On the other side of the crease was Jos Buttler, playing at 89 and trying to steal a second run on last ball of RR’s innings. But it wasn’t a ball and because it was a run out, Buttler had to go back to the pavilion. Then Ravichandran Ashwin stepped in to play the free kick.

‌ The ball came from Yash Dayal and it was a long shot. Riyan Parag wanted to sneak a run but Ashwin wasn’t in the mood for the run.

20-year-old Parag, on the other hand, had reached the other end, with Ashwin not leaving his position. GT wicket keeper Wriddhiman Saha collected the ball easily and passed it to Yash Dayal, who then sent off Riyan Parag.

Riyan Parag didn’t seem too happy after the run out and gave senior member R Ashwin a death glare before heading back to the pavilion.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan were asked to bat first and with the help of Jos Buttler’s 89 and Sanju Samson’s quick 26 carries, RR put up a challenging 189-carry total for Gujarat.

The Gujarat Titans responded with Shubman Gill, who made a good start in GT with his 35 runs from 21 balls, and Matthew Wade, who hit 35 runs from 30 balls. But it was the pairing of Hardik Pandya and David Miller whose partnership was the reason for the Gujarat Titans’ victory. Pandya hit 40 runs from 27 balls with 5 fours while Miller showed his famous “killer Miller” form as he hit 68 runs in 38 balls and smashed 3 straight sixes in the penultimate over to lead GT to victory and the finals .
