Riot MMO marches on, says Riot after Ghostcrawler leaves

On this week’s MOP Podcast, Justin wondered aloud if Riot Games themselves had addressed Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street’s departure from his role as head of the Riot MMORPG. I had searched but found nothing official but as it turned out there was a little beep over last week Marc Merrills Twitter account. We might have preferred a formal statement, but we’ll take it anyway. In short, the game is evolving, though Merrill warns that it’s in the early stages of development and has a “long road” ahead of it.
“[W]We’re still in early development, but have a direction we’re very excited about. We work hard to give you an experience you will love. (But there’s still a VERY long way to go – thanks for being patient with us.) We believe in this game and the team working on it. If we look at development as a race, Greg has had a fantastic first half of the season with an incredible team and I know whoever takes the baton next will be successful in the future. In the meantime, we’re looking for the world’s best and brightest who LOVE MMOs. If you’ve ever dreamed of helping build the world’s next incredible MMO, we’d love to hear from you.”
Merrill, of course, is the very manager who first teased the MMO in 2018 and then immediately took it back while trolling MMO players; It was Street who finally put an end to all the teasing and shallow denials by confirming the game was underway in 2022. As one of the company’s co-founders, Merrill previously served as CEO and was appointed President of Games at the studio in 2022.
