It’s almost time to return to Middle-earth. Amazon Prime Video’s highly anticipated new Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, arrives on the streamer on September 2nd.

The fantasy series is one of Amazon Studios’ most ambitious projects to date and is already breaking records before its release. Not only is it reported to be the most expensive television series of all time (Amazon apparently spent nearly $715 million on all eight episodes), but the series’ first trailer racked up an unbeaten 257 million views when it first debuted on this year’s Super Bowl debuted , more than any Super Bowl trailer in history.

Given the hype, expect millions to be tuned in to the new Tolkein adaptation when it finally hits streams this week.

When is The Rings of Power coming out?

The first two episodes of “Rings of Power” will arrive on Amazon Prime on September 2nd at 6pm PT / 9pm ET and will be released weekly until its finale on October 14th.

What is The Rings of Power about?

The Rings of Power, directed by showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay, is set in the second age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings films, and chronicles the formation of the Rings of Power and Suaron’s return middle earth While the new series will feature backstories for familiar characters such as Galadriel and Elrond, played by Morfydd Clark and Robert Aramayo respectively, it will also introduce new faces such as dwarf prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur), Princess Disa (Sophia Nomvete) and Numenoreans Isildur (Maxim Baldry) and Elendil (Lloyd Owen).

Fans of the franchise may be most excited about the story arc for Elrond, one of the most revered characters in Tolkein’s epic saga. After being tapped to play a younger version of the pivotal character, Aramayo delved deep into the lore of Middle-earth – including supplementary material such as The Silmarillion and The History of Middle-earth – to study Elrond’s full history.

“I had one of those moments where everything in your body feels like you’re electrified,” Aramayo said diversity Earlier this month about his casting. “I was shocked and surprised and I felt really, really honored that they are considering me for him.”

While The Rings of Power doesn’t arrive on Amazon Prime until September 2, the streamer is already home to all three films in the Lord of the Rings trilogy if you’re looking to brush up on your Middle-earth lore before digging into the series.
