Ricky Martin files for divorce and demands joint custody of the children
Renowned singer Ricky Martin and his husband, artist Ivan YosefThey are breaking up after six years of marriage.
The singer, known officially as Enrique Martin, filed for divorce on Wednesday, July 5, according to court documents obtained by The Blast. The couple got married on August 29, 2017, however the excerpt of the separation has yet to be resolved. The couple have two young children: Lucia Martin-Yosef, 4, and Renn Martin-Yosef, 3.

The singer, best known for his hit song “Living La Vida Loca,” filed for divorce on Wednesday, July 5, according to new court documents obtained by The Blast. Irreconcilable differences were cited as the reason for the divorce. Although they still decide on separate and joint financial arrangements, Martin is seeking joint custody of their children.
Martin is paying for legal fees as part of the couple’s prenuptial agreement. It should be noted that the date of separation is listed as ‘To be determined’ and therefore the duration of spousal support must also be calculated.
Regarding the estate, the court documents state, “Plaintiff has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the estate property and obligations of each party under the terms of their prenuptial agreement.” Plaintiff reserves the right to modify this petition or adapt the petition to the evidence.”
The former couple want to continue providing a “healthy” parenting dynamic for their children
On Wednesday, the couple released a joint statement announcing that they were separating after six years together. In the statement, via People Magazinethe former couple expressed their desire to maintain a “healthy family dynamic” for their children.
“We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and to honor what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years,” the statement said. “Our greatest desire now is to continue to have a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue raising our children together while maintaining the respect and love we have for one another.”
Believe it or not, the former couple actually met on Instagram in 2015. They began dating soon after and got engaged in 2016. Although the publication listed the year of their wedding as 2018, the court record says they wed on August 29. 2017

In 2021, the former couple’s romance was chronicled in a Paramount+ series titled Behind The Music. In a clip from the show, Ricky Martin explained how he met the artist and how quickly their relationship developed.
“I met Jwan through Instagram, believe it or not. I’ve seen his art and I’m like, ‘Who is the artist?’ and it said ‘Jwan Yosef’ and I was like, ‘That’s such a cool name, but I want to see his face.’ And then when I saw his face I said, “Okay, that’s over.” “What a beautiful man,” Martin explained Our magazine.
“We texted for six months, and six months later I fly out to London, where he used to live, and I’m like, ‘Well, let’s meet then,'” Martin continued. “When I got out of the car and saw him, I was like, ‘Whoa. Hold on, I think this is the man of my life and I think I’m going to marry him.”
Martin then paid tribute to his partner touchingly, adding, “I call him the witchcraft because I felt the magic, then I was in his arms.”
The singer wants to continue to pursue acting
Although best known for his hit songs, Ricky Martin has been appearing in Puerto Rican television commercials since the age of six. He has also appeared in General Hospital, Glee, and several other series.
In a June 2021 cover story for People The actor told the magazine he wants to continue pursuing an acting career. “I love acting,” Martin said. “I’m waiting for these scripts, for these great scripts. I can play gay, I can play straight, I can play a serial killer. I can play Latin, but also European. I’m ready. just give it to me man Give it to me.”
“I don’t know if I won’t get roles because I’m gay,” Martin added. “But if that’s the case, it’s really sad. I will keep working until life is different.”
