Richmond vs. odds and predictions. VCU (Pass in the A-10 rematch)

Richmond Rivalry will close its second act tonight when the VCU Rams host Richmond Spiders at the Stuart C. Siegel Center in Atlantic 10 action.

The Rams held on to a tight defensive battle back on January 29 with a 65-62 win and are predicted to wipe out the series by the same score tonight.

Both teams have been in mixed form in their last five games, with VCU on a four-game winning streak and Richmond claiming victory in four of their last five. Lonely loss? 87-84 loss at George Madson on February 9.

Last time out, the intensity of the defense could be felt. Tonight, however, I think we’ll see both breaches open up a bit more, making me lean over.

Since early March, Spider-Man’s attack has become a more effective unit, led by Tyler Burton (16.8 PPG, 7.4 RPG) and Striker Grant Golden (15.9 PPG) , 6.5 RPG). Senior points guard Jacob Gilyard has also distributed the ball superbly with just under seven assists per game in his last four.

Meanwhile, VCU has also picked their offensive product over the past four games; averaging just under 74 points per game.

While the Rams are known for their horrendous defense, which ranks fifth in the country in adjusted defensive effectiveness, results have come in six of their last seven home games. Richmond’s main starting group is all the seniors and juniors, who have played against the team coached by Mike Rhoades over the past several seasons. They won’t be shocked when the pressure comes on, and will find ways to speed up and get out during the transition.

I expected a looser offensive performance from both teams in Round 2, taking the lead to be the right team in the second.

LEAN: OVER 133 (-110)
