Redfall fans are reacting to messages that are always online, and they’re not happy

Ahead of Redfall’s release later this year, developers Arkane Studios reached out to say that while the game is single-player, it will have an always-online feature. Players can play the campaign with their fans, but those who prefer to play it alone can see this option through to the end. Following Arkane’s official announcement, fans are unhappy with the constantly online news and have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the practice.
Redfall fans have taken to the Redfall subreddit and Twitter to share their thoughts on keeping the game always online. It’s a mixed perspective for some, but this is coming from those already playing Always Online games, like destiny 2. Many have shared that this is a bad example of an always online game to compare Redfall to because it’s a single player experience.
Comments range from calling Redfall “Died upon arrival“a”no purchase‘ and to share them lost interest in the game. Some have defended this news, saying that several games already have it constant internet connections.
Regardless, most keen Redfall prospects have begun to divert their interest from the game, which could result in a softer launch. Additionally, many fans are curious as to why such features were not separate, making it a single player experience that could take place without the use of the internet. Those who want to play online could turn it on if they want to play with friends.
Arkane Studios has until the May 2nd launch of Redfall to move forward with the community. Given the current news, it looks like many players will hopefully hold off on purchasing the game or cancel their pre-orders. Though a handful of players still plan to purchase the game and play via Xbox Game Pass on release day, launch numbers could be lower than Arkane Studios anticipated following this news. Hopefully that’s enough for them to do something about it, but it’s unlikely that such a drastic change can happen almost three months after launch.
