Rebel Wilson slammed online for ‘disappointing’ new career move: ‘Losing touch’

Sections of Australian actress Rebel Wilson’s huge fan base have called out the star to her new fashion venture over a major oversight.

The Pitch Perfect star and her partner Ramona Agruma recently launched a casual clothing line called R&R Club.

But the clothing range only goes up to L/XL – something Wilson’s plus-size fans have a problem with.

The actress has been accused of failing badly on the “size inclusivity” front and fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment.

In Australia, an L would normally be equated to a size 12 and an XL to a size 14, although there is no Australian standard for adult clothing sizing.

According to ABS data, the average dress size for a woman in Australia is 14-16.

Before Wilson began her “year of health” in 2020 – during which she lost more than 70 pounds – she was something of a poster child for taller women.

Some of her fans said they felt that since her makeover she’s “gone out of touch” and separated from some elements of her fandom.

“I don’t understand how someone who has been plus size for most of their career and life than someone who knows how hard it is to be fat and buy clothes and actually find them your size… I don’t understand how someone with this background and knowledge can bring out a brand that only goes up to XL,” TikTok user @itsyourdest said in a recent video post.

“People’s biggest argument for it is always, ‘Oh, it’s so expensive to have so many size ranges,’ but it’s Rebel Wilson.

“She has money.”

Others flocked to the comments section to agree.

“It’s so disappointing when you see something you love and are so excited and not selling it in my size,” one person wrote.

“Wow. I’m disappointed in her. She knew how that felt,” wrote another.

“Of all the people I thought she would go for larger sizes as she was taller than XL at the time so disappointed in her,” added a third.

“Wow. This is absolutely pathetic,” wrote another.

Others criticized the cost of the products, noting that a white hoodie with a purple R&R Club logo retailed for $271 and matching sweatpants for $228, meaning the head-to-toe look would set a shopper back nearly $500 .

Fans have addressed the sizing and pricing issues on Wilson’s own Instagram page.

Below a photo of Wilson and Agruma modeling the outfit, one fan wrote, “Imagine you’re a plus-size girl – and then come out with a clothing line that doesn’t involve sizes.”

“So disappointing that a formerly burly celebrity who once had a plus size clothing line is now offering exclusive casual wear in small sizes at absurd markups,” fumed another.

Another accused the celebrity of “losing touch,” while another remarked, “A way to kick out all those big bodied fans that boosted your early career.” Ouch rebel, ouch.”

Wilson has not yet publicly responded to the criticism.
