Rebel Wilson reveals how the film role helped ‘completely’ change her love life

Australian actress Rebel Wilson has revealed it was a film role that first made her question her sexuality.

The 42-year-old’s upcoming movie The Almond and the Seahorse features a scene where she kisses co-star Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson said this scene was filmed in 2021, which ultimately led to her kissing a woman in real life.

Before filming The Almond and the Seahorse, Wilson said she’d never kissed a woman before and was like, “Oh god, how is that supposed to work?”

“I’ve had a situation with a woman before, not a sexual relationship, and we hadn’t kissed or anything,” she said.

“But then the kiss with Charlotte came up.

“I didn’t think it was such a big deal or anything.

“Then, oddly enough, when I kissed her in my professional life, I thought, well, maybe I should really do that in my personal life and see how it goes, which I did.”

She said if the on-screen kiss hadn’t happened, she might never have met her current partner, Ramona Agruma.

“These experiences opened my heart to the possibility,” Wilson said.

“It completely changed my love life.

“It’s such a great thing.”

Wilson met Agruma, a fashion designer, late last year after filming on The Almond and the Seahorse wrapped.

The film sees Wilson in her first dramatic, as opposed to a comedic, role.

In it, she plays an archaeologist whose husband suffers traumatic brain injury, leading to her having an affair.

The Pitch Perfect star went public about her relationship with Agruma in June this year.

It was revealed that Wilson decided to go public after the Sydney Morning Herald threatened to “out” her.

At the recent AACTA Awards, Wilson scrutinized the release.

“Big things have happened in my life this year, like big changes,” Wilson said during her speech.

“I switched from dairy to soy.

“I thought I should tell you guys now and jump into the Sydney Morning Herald.”

The joke prompted a burst of laughter from the audience.

Since announcing the relationship, Wilson has regularly posted love photos with Agruma.

In November, Wilson announced another major life change — that she’d welcomed a baby daughter into her life.

“I am beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, who was born via surrogate last week,” Wilson wrote.

“I can’t even begin to describe the love I have for her, she is a beautiful miracle!”

She continued, “I’m ready to give little Roycie all the love I can.”

“I’m a fast learner… lots of respect to all the moms out there,” she added.

“Proud to be in your club.”

The Almond and the Seahorse opens on December 16th.
