Wilson didn’t say which role she auditioned for or if she got the part.
However, she explained that the Bond connection came about before she hosted the BAFTA Film Awards in London last year.
The comedian had to get approval from Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson before she could incorporate some Bond-themed jokes into her monologues.
“What was really cool was getting to audition for Bond,” she casually added during the Variety interview.
It has not been confirmed who will take on the 007 role after Daniel Craig leaves in 2021’s No Time To Die, or if the new 007 will be male or female.
Meanwhile, Wilson was photographed performing a storm at the amfAR Cannes Gala 2023 at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in France on Thursday.
The actress and her fiancee, fashion designer Ramona Agruma, looked stunning in off-the-shoulder dresses at the high-profile event.
Wilson, 43, wore a strapless dark green dress paired with a statement necklace embellished with pink and green gems.
A tanned Agruma, 39, looked equally incredible in a pink off the shoulder dress.
Like Wilson, she kept accessories to a minimum, pairing the elegant dress with simple drop earrings, a necklace and strappy heels.
The couple held hands and smiled at each other while posing for the Cannes press.
The pair were later spotted chatting with other celebrity guests including Kate Beckinsale, Kellie Crisp, Victoria Villaroel and Debora Nascimento.
At the venue, Wilson and Agruma were photographed alongside TV presenter Heidi Klum and model Winnie Harlow.
The AmfAR Gala is considered one of the hottest parties in Cannes, raising millions of dollars for AIDS and HIV research and education.
The evening was moderated by Queen Latifah and included performances by Adam Lambert, Gladys Knight, Halsey and Bebe Rexha.
Former Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld produced a runway show for the occasion, and artwork was auctioned, including an autographed piece by British artist Damien Hirst.
Over the years, the gala has raised more than $245 million for AIDS research.
Wilson is in Cannes to announce her debut feature Deb, which will begin filming in September in Australia.
