Rebecca Corry brings the story of Louis CK’s sexual harassment into her performance

Rebecca Corry is consistently asked about Louis CK whenever the comic hits the headlines, which has been the case since comedian Corry spoke up as one of five women who have named the “Louis” star in a 2017 New York Times accused of sexual harassment investigative history.

Aside from a 2018 Vulture essay, Corry has avoided addressing the sordid encounter but is finally ready to address the matter through her work, she tells Variety.

“One hundred percent. Yes. I’ll definitely talk about it. It’s part of my story and it’s my story to tell,” Corry replied when asked if she was now raising the issue in her performance.

“It takes time to process,” she continued. “And so much of it was so incredibly painful and disappointing and sad and hurtful, and like I said, I often feared for my safety. I’m able to process it now and find some of the humor in this disgusting and absurd circumstance. I think it just takes time to transform trauma into humor.”

“I think it just takes time to turn trauma into humor,” Corry said while discussing Louis CK in her performance.

The allegation, which the “Sorry” comic confirmed as true, involved her declining a comic’s request to masturbate in front of her.

After speaking out, Corry believes she was the one who really got “cancelled.”

“I got canceled in 2005, the day it happened [the encounter with C.K.] happened,” she claimed. “This bullshit that the predators are the ones getting canceled is a nice idea, but it’s not true. They don’t get cancelled, they just get an adult time-out.

“Their behavior will be temporarily paused, but fear not, they have hardcore fans, millions of dollars and will always remain in power. The people who get canceled are the ones whose lives and careers have been shagged, and mine has.”

Many questioned if CK was really deposed after winning a Grammy for Best Comedy Album in 2022, a win that made accuser Julia Wolov weep.

As for Corry, she refuses to give stand-up more credit than gaining the experience for her next gig.

“I don’t care what this guy does and of course the abandonment culture is real. I am living proof. The moment I was sexually harassed at my job, I was fired. That’s how it works, kids. And calling me a “victim,” “accuser,” “silence breaker,” or “one in five women” has become tiresome and is now intolerable. My name is Rebecca Corry.”
