New Zealand’s Fin Allen smashed his first ton in the T20I match against Scotland on Wednesday 27 July at the Grange Cricket Club Ground in Edinburgh. This was also his first appearance in T20Is.

He previously scored his first ODI half-century against Ireland, having made his debut in the previous game. Allen’s century helped New Zealand to a massive 226 score. Allen may replace aging Colin Munro and Martin Guptill in the near future.

The 23-year-old played just 56 balls to score 100s with the help of eight boundaries and six sixes in an impressive 180.36 batting average. Opening for the Kiwis, he and Guptill added 85 runs for the first wicket before the latter was sacked with 40 runs. Jimmy Neesham hit 30 runs on just nine balls while Daryl Mitchell’s 23* helped New Zealand to a huge result.

In the domestic cricket leagues, Allen hit 1,777 runs with a brilliant batting average of 175.07. In IPL 2022 Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him for 80 lakh INR but he did not perform.

Notably, Allen also becomes the fifth New Zealand batsman to smash an international T20I ton. Ahead are Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro, Martin Guptill and Glenn Phillips.

Speaking of the match, New Zealand batted first, putting up 226 for Scotland. 15th place team Scotland started well and played from the start in pursuit of the big goal.

Openers Calum MacLeon and George Munsey sewed a 62-run partnership for the first wicket before in-form spinner Ish Sodhi sacked Munsey in 28 runs. Ollie Hairs became Sodhi’s next victim. Sodhi also recorded a career-best 4-28 from his four overs, while Mitchell Santner scalped 2-23 as the hosts were reduced to 157-8 in their 20 overs.
