John Harbaugh on Deshaun Watson

The hottest topic of discussion in the entire NFL right now is Deshaun Watson’s suspension. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh took a very clear stance on the issue, but decided not to reveal much about it to the public media.

Instead, John Harbaugh spoke about the Baltimore Ravens’ zero-tolerance policy toward violence against women. This particular policy went into effect in 2014 following the Ray Rice incident, and the franchise has made it a policy not to prosecute players who were banned under the Personal Conduct Policy.

“I have many opinions on this” Harbaugh said Monday about the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot. “I’m just not at liberty to share them right now. That’s for the league to decide.”

“I respect what Steve Bisciotti and Dick Cass created here almost 10 years ago” Harbaugh said. “Basically we are a kind of zero tolerance. You have to know the truth, you have to try to understand the circumstances, but we’ve stayed away from that particular situation — when we’re calling up players, when we’re signing them as free agents. That’s Steve’s decision and I’m glad we have that policy.”

The Cleveland Browns quarterback, who had 24 lawsuits against his name filed by 24 different women, got away with just a 6-game suspension, a punishment many felt was inadequate given the allegations against him.

However, if Watson does get away with the 6-game suspension imposed by Disciplinary Officer Sue L. Robinson, then his return game would be on October 23 against the Baltimore Ravens. The NFL may extend the suspension if it deems appropriate by appealing the decision, which then takes the matter into the hands of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to determine the final length of Deshaun Watson’s suspension.
