Raptors’ Scottie Barnes retires to 76ers with ankle injury; X-rays are negative

Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes was eliminated in Game 1 of the first round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers with a left ankle sprain. The Raptors announced after the game that Barnes’ X-rays came back negative and he will undergo further imaging on Sunday.

Barnes’ left ankle rolled when he was kicked by 76ers star Joel Embiid earlier in the fourth quarter. Barnes hit the ground with his fists and was in significant pain when he was helped off the pitch. The 20-year-old had 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists before leaving the game.

Raptors forward Thaddeus Young also suffered an injury during the game when he sprained his thumb while aiming at a loose ball. Young’s X-rays were negative and he will be examined further with Barnes on Sunday.

Toronto lost the contest 131-111 and will play Game 2 on Monday.
