Raptors-Pacers suspended, fans and players evacuated after speaker caught fire

The Toronto Raptors had to evacuate both fans and players from the field after a loudspeaker inside the Scotiabank Arena caught fire.

On the scoresheet, it looked like the Toronto Raptors beat the visiting Indiana Pacers in the first half. However, the scene inside Scotiabank Arena was more chaotic and unpleasant than that.

Early in the match, an entire section of fans were removed from their seats. And word began to spread that it was because a loudspeaker in the rafters caught fire and firefighters were rushed to the scene.

However, for some reason, the match continued to take place with continuous speaker fires. However, with 4:05 left in the first half, things got too serious.

Raptors fire: Speaker caught fire at Scotiabank Arena causing match to be paused, had to be evacuated

At that point, officials decided to evacuate all fans from their seats and get the players off the floor, halting the game at that point.

It’s actually pretty horrifying to think that an NBA speaker could get caught on fire in the middle of a game. More than that, it’s a myth to think the game goes on for a while while that’s happening.

We will keep you updated on this situation as we have more information. Now, however, the game has been officially delayed with just over four minutes remaining in the first half due to a fire.

Update: After it was determined that there was no threat to public safety, it was announced that the game would continue without fans in the building.
